Self Motivation

What motivates you every morning to get out of bed and start your day? For me, it is being a better person than I was the day before and achieving what I have set out to do for the day so I can make a difference.  I believe every day is a new day with new energies to do more and keep moving forward.  Different people are motivated by different things and at different times in their life.  I have found that most people find themselves lacking motivation because they do not have a clear understanding of what they want.  Having an awareness of where you wish to be, and an understanding of how you plan to get there is a vital part of staying motivated.

It helps to set some goals and what you want to achieve in life.  I started by setting personal goals, as I knew what I wanted to achieve.  Every day I measured my achievements to track my progress.

You will experience failure many times as I did initially, but that should not stop you, instead reassess your situation and try new ways.

Together with setting a life goal, it is important to have a growth mindset to drive yourself to succeed.  A growth mindset is when you believe that you can learn, improve through hard work, effort, and control your own ability. Have you ever wondered how some people excel in whatever they choose to do, and others cannot despite being talented and knowledgeable.  It is because those who cannot excel have a fixed mindset.  A fixed mindset is when you believe that your talent is ingrained and you cannot change your level of ability.  Research shows that those with a growth mindset are far more likely to achieve in whatever they choose.

Always believe that you can control your own ability, thoughts, and learn to improve.  It is absolutely normal to have days when your emotion gets the better of you and you feel like giving up.  After all we are only humans.  Whenever you are having such days try these two simple steps:

  • Just breathe and relax your mind, say to yourself “ I believe in me, I can and I will”. Self-talk is very important for your personal drive to achieve.
  • When you start to have a negative thought immediately remember a happy moment in your life.  By doing this you start to feel good and the negative thought disappears.

In conclusion, motivation is what pushes us to achieve our goals, feel more fulfilled, and improve our overall quality of life.
